The number of Americans who use Twitter on a daily basis has quadrupled since 2010, according to a study by Princeton Survey Research Associates International for the Pew Internet and American Life Project. The study found 8 percent of the U.S. online adult population is using Twitter daily. The study suggested the rapid rise in users may be due to the increasing use of smartphones. Not surprisingly, the study found 31 percent of younger people (18-24) use Twitter compared to 14 percent of those age 30-49. The number of Twitter active users rose from 100 million in September 2011 to 140 million in March 2012, the social networking company reported.
